Springheeled JackA strange creature, that pub worker and farmer's daughter Polly Adams could only describe as "devil-like", was the terror of London in the mid-1800s. It all started in 1837 with the attack on Polly Adams, and then later in the year another woman was attacked in the Clapham churchyard. But the sightings and attacks of this figure that could leap over fences in a single bound truly began to start in 1838.

January, 1838: A resident of Peckham sent a letter to the Lord Mayor of London, Sir John Cowan, describing an attack by a creature he called "Spring-Heeled Jack". Sir Cowan made the letter public, only to receive dozens of other letters by more witnesses of the creature.

February, 1838: Late at night there was a furious knocking at the door of the Alsop residence, where young Jane Alsop and her two sisters lived with their father. Jane answered the door, and standing in the shadows was a man claiming to be a police officer. He asked her to bring a candle, saying that he had captured Spring-heeled Jack.
The stranger took the candle but then grabbed Jane and began to claw at her face. He ran off into the shadowy darkness when one of Jane's sisters came outside and called for help.
Jane's attacker allegedly wore a helmet and a white costume similar to oilskin and wore a black cloak over everything. His eyes were like raging fireballs, blue flames shot from his mouth, and his fingers ended in claws.

A similar attack happened to 18-year-old Lucy Squires a few months later. While walking with her sister through Green Dragon Alley (ironic name) in Limehouse, she was blinded with blazing blue flames by a tall cloaked figure.
A strange figure was seen atop the spire of a church and even on the Tower of London. Throughout the 1850s and 60s, this strange creature was seen all over England. Its descriptions varied from a winged and horned creature, not unlike the Jersey Devil, to the "spaceman" that attacked the two girls in 1838. People stayed off the streets at night in fear of this creature.
Authorities began to send mobs out to capture this supposed devil. In the 1860s, one of the mobs cornered the creature, but it jumped over a hedge and escaped. In the 1870s he attacked sentries "with his icy hands". In 1877, people tried to shoot him, but just like in the cases of Mothman, the Jersey Devil, and other strange creatures, Springheeled Jack was not shot.
September 1904, was the last recorded sighting of Jack. He was seen jumping among the rooftops in Liverpool. He was cornered yet again but leaped away with ease.
What was this strange being? A century ago people believed him to be the Devil himself (especially since he was seen near and on top of churches) but nowadays many people believe Springheeled Jack to have been an extraterrestrial, judging by his "space traveler" attire and unusual abilities. Whether it was alien, Satan, or a prankster, the legend of Springheeled Jack lives on as one of the most terrifying paranormal events in British history.

Walking Corpse in Toraja
Stories of the dead rising from the grave have haunted our dreams since the dawn of time. To some cultures, the concept of raising the dead is not merely the stuff of nightmares. In some regions, this practice still takes place, and to the people involved, it is very very real. In this photo we see what appears to be a corpse standing upright. Next to her is a coffin full of layers of cloth. Some say that this is an image of a reanimated corpse being led to her new burial spot. Toraja people do practice something akin to the rising of the dead. It seems that the people believe that death is a long process, sometimes taking years as the deceased gradually works their way toward Puya (the afterlife). Very elaborate measures must be taken during the funeral to ensure that the loved one makes it safely to that destination. Because the funeral arrangements are so extensive, they are also very expensive. For this reason, a body is sometimes placed in a temporary coffin. During this time, the family can accumulate the necessary funds to pay for a proper funeral, which includes a cave or hanging casket, a multi-water buffalo slaughter, chanting, singing, music, stone and wooden effigies to protect the soul during travel, and so on.
Once the funds are raised, so is the dead. It seems that the Toraja genuinely believe that the dead are able to walk themselves to their new burial site. More likely, and what we are seeing depicted in the picture, is that the somewhat mummified corpse is removed from its temporary coffin and transported upright to the permanent site. As “corpse walking” is part of the tradition, the body is held in the standing position to simulate ambulation.

Mysterious Flying Girl in Russia
The strangest footage to come out this week so far hails from Russia as one man witnesses a mysterious girl levitating in the woods suddenly running away after displaying the incredible feat and being unwittingly filmed. The details of this case are strange, but judging from the various analyses of this still fairly obscure piece of paranormal footage, the incident is sure to raise several questions. It all starts with the man talking to his dog and filming it in the middle of what appears to be an autumn forest. The dog, whose name is presumably Tarzan appears inattentive and shortly disappears behind the trees barking. As the dog runs off, the man follows with the camera and in the distance we can see two shapes. As he focuses in on the girl you can clearly see that she is in the middle of a clearing with no objects above her and she is simply hovering there moving as if blowing in the wind and holding her arms out as though attempting to keep her arms steady. As the man reacts, his dog runs back to him and the camera moves away from the girl flying. When it returns back to them you can see the girl standing there alongside an older woman and the two run off into the woods just as mysteriously as they appeared.

Ghost Hunters in Serbia
In the latest episode entitled, “Army of the Dead”, the Ghost Hunters International team visited Petrovaradin Fortress in Serbia. Located on the bank of Danube river in the town of Novi Sad, this fortress stands as a testament to times long passed, gracing modern European structures around it with a scent of the old and mysterious.

Spread over a huge perimeter, this set of structures, built over 3 centuries ago, attracts tourists from all over the world who seek adventure or just a beautiful day of hiking and sightseeing alike with its unique structure and charm. It is known as a largest undestroyed fortress in Europe.
What spices things up is a maze of underground tunnels that stretches for 12 miles. Rumor has it that back in the day, the tunnels reached Budapest in Hungary, but over 80% of those tunnels were destroyed and collapsed by use and time.
Catacombs have claimed over 200 lives in this present time according to local files, but so many more back in the time it was built and used.
Shadow figures, grey mists and black masses are often mentioned in context of the tunnels. Stories about running footsteps, dragging chains, tortured prisoners, cold spots and people being touched are bouncing off those hallways like an echo of mystery.
The team was shown to the execution wall where moans of over 200 prisoners that were shot was reportedly heard and the rumble of rifle fire is often audible.
They were also shown the Satanic ritual rooms inside the tunnels with massive collections of bones.
In attempt to not give away too much information, it still must be mentioned that the team had some great personal back-of-the-neck-hair-raising experiences that were somewhat backed up with the evidence and the location itself.

Marilyn Monroe's Crypt
Tucked away in a small cemetery, which in itself, is fittingly tucked away behind a (possibly haunted) movie theater, one can find the final resting place of the legendary blonde bombshell.

Since Marilyn's spirit is one of the most ubiquitous ghosts in Hollywood (along side the ghost of silent screen star Rudolf Valentino) and has being seen at just about any location she had a connection with in this city, it makes perfect sense that her crypt would also be counted as one of the many places said to be haunted by the spirit of this larger than life sex symbol. Then again, since her famous form, which inspired both the shape of Coca-Cola's trademarked bottle and the Disney character, Tinkerbell, has never actually materialized, just this strange pink ectoplasm, maybe it isn't her at all. Perhaps these formless blobs are the restless spirits of others there, who like Marilyn died under mysterious circumstances. Some of the tragic figures interned at this address include Bob Crane, Dorothy Stratten, Karen Carpenter, Natalie Wood, Dominique Dunne and Heather O'Rourke (both of them victims of the supposed "Poltergeist Curse"), and Victor Killian (who is said to haunt the Chinese Theater in Hollywood). Janis Joplin was cremated here. Don Knotts, although not a tragic figure like the others, is buried here and is best remembered by ghost-hunters for starring in arguably the best "haunted house" movie ever made,"The Ghost and Mr. Chicken." Additionally, almost a thousand other celebrities are there in this very tiny graveyard.
Legend has it that when baseball superstar, "Jolt'n" Joe DiMaggio, chose this location for Marilyn (his ex-wife), he picked it because of its remote and hidden location. He wanted a place, where her fans wouldn't bother her, not realizing that the presence of her remains would forever attract other celebrities and tourists. So much so, that Marilyn's marker has been permanently stained pink from all the fans (wearing red lip-stick), who have kissed it.

On 22 November 2012, millions of protesters began protesting against Morsi, after his government announced a temporary constitutional declaration that in effect granted the president unlimited powers. Morsi deemed the decree necessary to protect the elected constituent assembly from a planned dissolution by judges appointed during the Mubarak era.
Footage of rioting in Cairo appears to show a ghost horse and rider. This is extended video with slow motion. At the 1:20 mark you clearly see some greenish figure moving through the crowd. Whether it’s the reflection of the fire on the camera lense or something else, it is just amazing and remains a stange phenomenon.

Alarm engineer Ron Bowers took this picture at the Horse and Groom pub in Rayne Road, Braintree. After he initially sensed that there was something odd in the pub, Bowers returned to the pub and managed to snap the picture of what he thinks could be the ghost that is haunting the pub. The image looks like an action-figure that was held too close to that camera, causing the blurred image of a human silhouette. The 52-year-old says his mediumship is with the camera, and he became interested in the 1782 pub after “sensing something” on a visit several years ago. He recently returned to look into this paranormal experience after an invitation by landlord Kevin Prince. Last year medium Patricia Putt visited the pub and picked up on the spirits of children, soldiers, servants and even a brown dog.

Haunted Borley Rectory
Borley Rectory was a rambling, chaotic and dingy late Victorian building in the quiet rural heartland of Essex. It came to be known as the “most haunted house in England”.

The Rectory was built in 1863 for the Rev. Henry Dawson Ellis Bull, a local clergyman. Reputedly the chosen location for Borley Rectory was once the site of an ancient monastery. Some locals were already claiming the area to be haunted, long before the Rectory was constructed. Undeterred, the Reverend Bull, moved into the new premises, with his wife and their 14 children. Almost immediately, strange occurance began. Mysterious foot steps, rining bells and even organ music were heard, objects appeared and disappeared, writing on the wall would material before the occupants’ eyes and apparitions were witnessed. One daughter was awakened by a slap in the face; another saw a the figure of thin old man in a tall hat standing by her beside when she awoke suddenly one night. A headless man was seen wandering the grounds and would occasionally be spotted walking through the walls of the rectory and a sad looking nun was often spotted on both floors of the building.

Bull FamilyThe Bull family remained within the Bull family until 1930. Throughout their residency, the supernatural phenomena just continued to grow. A cook reported that no matter how carefully she locked the door to a pantry, it would always be open the next morning; another servant claimed to have been woken in the night by a figure sitting astride him, which promptly evaporated in nothing as the terrified teenager called out in horror. A phantom coach was also observed by several of the rectory’s inhabitant. The coach was pulled by two enormous, galloping shadowy forms and driven by the figure of very short and pale man.

In 1930, the rectory fell into the hands of the Reverend Lionel Algernon Foyster, who moved in with his wife and teenage daughter. This seemed to usher in a new era of activity within the house, with an increased emphasis on communicative events and fewer sightings of silent apparitions. Strange smells would waft under the noises of the occupants, especially lavender and writing would regularly appear on walls, in books and on manuscripts. Some of this writing appeared to be communicating ominous messages to the Reverend’s wife, Maranna. This gave way to disembodied voices and eventually a physical attack on Marianne in which she was seriously hurt. An attempted exorcism resulted in the clergy men present being attacked with a barrage of stones.

In 1937, the founder of Britain’s National Laboratory of Psychical Research, Harry Price decided to conduct an experiment at the Rectory, which was to become famous throughout the ages. Price put an advertisment in the Times Newspaper asking for intelligent professionals to volunteer for an observation rota at the rectory. Of the 800 who applied, Price chose 40, who were drawn from respected and high ranking professions. They included Dr C.E.M. Joad, the philosopher, who claims to have experienced extreme changes of temperature within a matter of seconds in certain rooms within the building. A former British forces Commander recorded that he had been hit in the face by a small soap when on a vigil. No one else was present in the room. The Rectory was destroyed by a mysterious fire in 1939. Many locals had rushed to the scene, where they claim to have seen the figure of a young girl at the window of the burning building. Despite the destruction, the occurences continued.

Throughout the second world war, local wardens were perplexed by constant reports of lights being seen in the burnt out building during blackouts. Upon arrival at the building, there would be no such lights and no sign of any human habitation. This became such a matter of concern to authorities, that in 1943 the site of the Rectory was excavated on the orders of the British Government. Human remains were discovered less than three feet below the grounds surface and these were layed to rest in proper fashion. This led to a decline in phenomena, but not an outright disappearance. Electrical abnormalities in particular are said to be a regular occurence, even down to today. This has caused some researched and theorists of the supernatural to speculate that the old site of Borley Rectory is in fact a spiritual gateway or cross roads, between this life and the next.

Old Jail in Ohio
A pair of paranormal investigators said they discovered evidence of ghost activity while spending the night at an abandoned Ohio jail.

Tom Robson and Michelle Duke, co-founders of Southeastern Ohio Paranormal Investigators, said their team captured audio and video evidence of spirits haunting the Licking County Jail building, which was built in 1889 and has been empty for decades, The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch reported Wednesday. The pair, who are both corrections officers for the Zanesville Police Department, and their seven-member team spent the night at the facility in November.

"I've always considered myself a skeptical believer," Robson said. "I believe in the paranormal, but you have to prove it to me beyond a shadow of a doubt."The team said they are hoping to return to the jail for further investigation.

"You just want answers," Robson said. "Not just for other people, but for yourself."
