The Mysterious Moving Coffins of Barbados
This story is one of the most famous ghost stories and is featured in most books about the paranormal. The story revolves around the Chase family Vault near Oistins, Barbados.
The crypt was built in the early 18th century by the Waldrons, a wealthy sugar plantation family. The vault was cut from the rocks that form the island. On 31st July 1807 the crypt received its first occupant, Mrs. Thomasina Goddard. She was buried in a wooden coffin and a large marble slab was used to seal off the entrance. Soon afterwards ownership of the crypt passed to the Chase family, who were another wealthy plantation family. The family patriarch was Colonel Thomas Chase, a man with the reputation of having a bad temper and a propensity for cruelty to his slaves and family alike.
The first Chase burial was that of Mary Anna Maria Chase, who died at age 2 and was interred on 22nd February 1808 in a leaden coffin. Dorcas Chase, her older sister, followed on 6th July 1812, also in a leaden coffin. It was rumoured that she had slowly starved herself to death due to stress from her overbearing father. A month later, Colonel Chase himself died. He was buried in the vault on August 9th in a wooden coffin placed inside a leaden one.

Colonel Chase’s TombWhen Colonel Chase’s coffin was taken down into the vault, the pallbearers noticed that the two leaden coffins already in the tomb were not where they had been left a month earlier. Mary Anna’s coffin was lying upside-down in the opposite corner from where it had been placed. The workers returned the coffins to their side-by-side positions and left that of Colonel Chase next to them. The smaller coffin of Mary Anna was placed on top of one of the larger ones and the resealed with its heavy marble door.
At this point the moving of the coffin was blamed on the slaves who had assisted in the burials. The alleged cruelty of Colonel Chase toward his servants offered an easy revenge motive.
The crypt was opened again on the 25th of September 1816 for the burial of Master Samuel Brewster Ames and again on 17th November for Samuel Brewster. The Reverend Thomas Orderson, Rector of Christ Church, was on hand along with a magistrate and two other men. On both occasions the coffins had been moved, the second time with such force that Mrs. Goddard’s coffin was almost destroyed.
The Reverend Doctor ordered the vault thoroughly inspected for cracks in the walls, floor, ceiling, or hidden entrances and the crypt proved to be as solid as the day it was built. The coffins were put back how they were and the door sealed with mortar.
On the 7th July 1819 the tomb was reopened to receive the body of Miss Thomasina Clarke. Word of the moving coffins had spread and many people turned up to witness the opening, including the Governor, Sir Stapleton Cotton, Viscount Combermere. When the heavy marble door was removed, once again the coffins had been rearranged.
Again, the structure was examined and proved to contain no secret passages, cracks in the walls or any other way inside apart from the main doorway.
This time the coffins were rearranged with the addition of Miss Thomasina Clarke and the floor sanded with fine white sand. The door was placed back into its position and mortared in place. When the masons had completed their task, the Governor made several impressions in the mixture with his own seal, and many of those attending added various private marks in the wet mortar.
Over the next year there were numerous reports of rumblings inside the crypt, and on 18th April 1820 an impatient Governor Combermere decided to open the crypt and resolve the matter once and for all. The crypt was examined from the outside, with no obvious signs of tampering, weakness or entry. The mortar seal was examined and was intact and those who had made marks in the mortar were satisfied that they too were untouched. As the door was being pulled away, a coarse, grating sound came from within the crypt. As they leaned in to look, they saw the coffin containing the body of Dorcas Chase leaning against the door. The small coffin of Mary Anna Maria Chase, inside the tomb for 12 years, had been flung so violently against the left side wall that it had chipped away a piece of it. The rest of the coffins had been disturbed in a similarly chaotic manner. The sand covering the floor offered no trace of anything at all.

Busby Cursed ChairIs it possible an object could become so linked with the paranormal that the very act of using it could cause premature and unexplainable death? That's precisely what the chair of death allegedly does. Nestled away in the corner, no longer on display even with a felt rope, the chair hangs suspended from the wall in a small North Yorkshire town. And even those who clean it are warned not to physically touch it and definitely not sit in it. They say if you sit in it even for a moment death will soon follow.

Busby's Stoop is the name of the object. And it's a chair that has been the center of several legends over the course of many years. But unlike other alleged cursed objects, this chair is said to have a disturbingly high fatality rate, claiming every single victim that sits on it within only a short period of time afterward. The deaths always occur under the guise of coincidence, and have a good chance of being some of the most unlikely deaths or be terribly common. Skeptics say that those who would ignore the warning and the curse would also likely ignore other warnings and engage in high risk behaviors.

The legend begins with a man who had been sentenced to die. Thomas Busby had killed a coin counterfeiter after an argument with a hammer, bludgeoning him to death. After standing trial in 1702 he was granted one last wish before execution and requested that he be given the right to enjoy one final drink in his favorite bar chair. That night as he sat in his favorite chair, he proclaimed to the silent room awaiting his final words, "Death will come swiftly to whomsoever sits in my chair." Shortly after that, Busby was hanged.
No one thought much of the claim made by Busby, but out of respect didn't sit in the chair for some time. Decades passed and finally a chimney sweep and his partner came in and, upon discovering that no chairs were free he sat upon it much to the shock of the crowd. Proclaiming that he felt fine after the experience, he paid out his tab and promptly died of falling off a roof. Words of the curse would soon follow and the Busby Inn Stoop became notorious for its haunted chair that killed all who sat in it.

Finally the chair was put away after the body count rose unexplainably. Legends were told of the favorite chair and others who sat there suggested that the curse was finally laid to rest. Unable to part with such a historically significant piece of furniture, the owner of the inn warned cleaners not to sit in the chair. After a motorcycle accident, a downed bomber pilot, and several others, the chair was finally pulled up on a piece of rope to keep anyone from breaking into the back room where it was housed.

Can an object become so cursed and so interlocked with negativity that it can actually cause those who use it to die? The question once again bears mentioning as this chair has been said to be one of the most cursed objects in the known world. And though no one has sat in the chair in decades, there are still stern warnings about it and plenty of people who come near it but decide they do not wish to tempt fate.

Ghost Hunters
SyFy Network’s Ghost Hunters International is staying on the mainland this weekend, leading seminars and ghost hunts at Rolling Hills, the former asylum in Bethany, Genesee County.
The new GHI team — Kris Williams and Britt Griffith (who jumped this season from sister show Ghost Hunters), Barry Fitzgerald, Joe Chin, Susan Slaughter and Paul Bradford — will be on hand. Along for the ride will be Bill Murphy from Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files and Chip Coffey from A&E’s Paranormal State.
Williams, the leader for the weekend, says she can’t wait to get to Rolling Hills, which has been featured on several paranormal shows. “I’ve heard a lot of stories about the place from people I trust.”
Still, she’ll approach the weekend like any other — with skepticism. The idea is to eliminate any rational reasons for events. Then, if the investigators feel there is a paranormal presence, they do more research to figure out what the backstory could be. Williams’ specialty is genealogy, so she’ll look into the people who lived in a certain place and try to figure out their lives. She’ll be teaching a seminar on the method this weekend.

Ghostly Figures Caught on Film near York Minster
A York man claims he had a ghostly encounter while walking with a friend and his dog near York Minster. Paul Simpson, of The Groves, took two photographs of the Minster from Precentor’s Court, at about 6pm on a Sunday in November. Mr. Simpson said: “The first photograph I took was very dark so I went to take another. The dog, which is normally very placid, started going mad, barking and growling. We both wondered what was wrong with the dog, but we didn’t think anymore about it. “It was a week or so later when I looked at the photographs and saw the ghostly figures. One has a distinct face.” Mr Simpson said: “I was sceptical about ghosts. “I’ve shown the picture to two or three friends and they were amazed. It’s very very curious.” Mr Simpson now plans to consult another friend, York ghost walk organiser Trevor Rooney, to find out about the history of the area and any known ghosts around Precentor’s Court.

Old Changi HospitalOld Changi Hospital (OCH) in Singapore is one of the most haunted places in the world. Built in the 1930s, it is located at Netherveron Road in Changi Village.
During World War II, Japanese forces invaded Singapore and the beaches of Changi were soaked in the blood beheaded civilians and prisoners of war. The Japanese military took the original Changi buildings and made it their headquarters. There were many rumors of horrific torture chambers and the bloody executions of POWs. After the war, the Japanese themselves became the executed and paid for their war crimes with their own blood in the same Changi area.
In the 1950's the former military barracks were turned into a public hospital. A perpetual portal for life and death, the premises was proclaimed haunted by the public throughout the years. Witnesses claimed to see ghosts, Japanese soldiers and even pontianaks -- a Malay vampire. Some locals even believed that suffering through a serious injury was better than going to the haunted Changi hospital for medical attention.
In 1994, the original Changi Hospital moved its location. The buildings have been abandoned ever since 1997, only to be vandalized by those who dare enter. It's been reported that some explorers never come back out. But for Singapore thrill-seekers, the attraction to Old Changi Hospital is always there.
Spirits of different races and nationalities have been reported wandering around the premises.
